The SILLAG Region 1 recently conducted a benchmarking event involving the TARAKI-CAR and UPB SILBI TBI in Baguio City. This initiative aimed to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange between the Consortium for Sustainable, Innovation, Leadership, Linkages, Access, and Growth in Region 1 (SILLAG Region 1) and the Technological Consortium for Awareness, Readiness, and Advancement of Knowledge in Innovation in the Cordillera Region (TARAKI-CAR) alongside the University of the Philippines Baguio Social Innovation Laboratory and Business Inclusion Center Technology Business Incubator (UPB SILBI TBI) on December 11-12, 2023.

TARAKI – CAR focuses on enhancing the startup ecosystem in the Cordillera Administrative Region by offering funding to Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) supported by PCIEERD. Their goal is to lead the establishment and formalization of a Regional Startup Ecosystem Consortium. Meanwhile, UPB SILBI strives to generate sustainable and scientific ideas, ensuring local communities have opportunities for economic growth.

The collaboration between TARAKI-CAR and UPB signifies a potential alliance between academic institutions and the entrepreneurial community. This partnership aims to cultivate an innovative environment, offering resources for emerging entrepreneurs and nurturing startups for sustainable growth. These efforts are pivotal in driving economic development, creating jobs, and fostering technological advancements in the region.

During the benchmarking sessions, insightful discussions were held, delving into TARAKI’s best practices and the management strategies of UPB SILBI TBI. This provided valuable insights into their roles as innovators in the Cordillera region.

This benchmarking event highlights a strong commitment to cultivating an ecosystem that supports aspiring innovators and entrepreneurs in the region. The SILLAG team comprised Co-chairperson Mr. Racky D. Doctor of Pangasinan Entrepreneurs Development Association Incorporated (PEDAI), Project Leader Engr. Arnold C. Santos, Co-Project Leader Ms. Annalie L. Rosales, Innovation Committee Head Mr. Nestor Feland Panopio of United Pangasinan ICT Council (UPICT), and representatives from Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU), Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC), UPICT, PSTO-La Union, PSTO-Ilocos Sur, and Vintar Mango Grower.
